  1. So that was kind of confusing, and it was too bad 
  2. because when he became almost a cult figure and 
  3. a guru of the electronic age, many people focused 
  4. on this hot and cool medium distinction, and they 
  5. couldn‚Äôt always take it very far because they were 
  6. confused. But I don‚Äôt think he was disturbed about 
  7. that. If I had said to him what I just said to you, he 
  8. would have said, ‚ÄúWell, okay, if it‚Äôs not straight, 
  9. make up a better one.‚Äù But he would have given the 
  10. lead as to what to look at, and we‚Äôve had students 
  11. here at New York University, that have tried to 
  12. invent better ones. They would have a value in their 
  13. work they would have to attribute to McLuhan‚Äôs 
  14. inspiration.
